Orlando

It's almost the end of 2011 and what a wonderful year we had. Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and best wishes in the New Year.

We left 2 feet of snow in Denver and spent Christmas week in Orlando. The weather was perfect... in the mid 70's.. and the boys had a great time. We also got to see our cousins Khanh, Teresa, Tram and her family, and my aunt on Christmas Day since they coincidentally booked their vacation the same week. We didn't do Disney but we did go to Legoland which recently opened in Florida.

Koen got to ride several rides that he was tall enough for. He really liked the lego boat!

Poor little brother got to ride the stroller.

We spend a lot of time at the pool which had many shallow areas where Eilan could play.

The other big stop we made was to Kennedy Space Center.

Lunch is always a happy time :)

My First Day of School

Eilan started daycare a couple weeks ago. It was much harder on Mommy than Eilan but we've both adjusted. Now he's just down the hall from Koen. Other than climbing over the table to steal his friend's snacks... his teacher says he's doing great.

He loves this red tunnel and gets excited every time they pull it out.

SNOW!!! The first time Koen exprienced snow, he hid in the back of the garage for 10 minutes and inched his way out until he finally decided it was safe to touch the falling snow flakes. Fearless little brother made a mad dash into the pile of snow as soon as we let him go!

Eilan's 1st Birthday Part 2

We spent Thanksgiving week in Kansas. My parents had Thanksgiving dinner/Eilan's birthday party at their house. As always, Koen had a great time with his cousins and wanted to stay at "Ba Ngoai's (grandma's) Hotel" and didn't want to go back home to Colorado.

Koen wanted brother's cake to have Percy the train on it.

Eilan had no problems diving right in...

Eilan's 1st Birthday Part 1

Eilan... the baby... my second born.. who's loud, mischievous, outgoing, loud, hilarious, loud... the best little brother anyone could ever ask for.... turns the big 1 on Wednesday, Nov 16th. We had his birthday party at home last Saturday and invited close friends and family. Koen went with Mommy to the store to pick out a balloon for Eilan.. and of coarse, one for himself.

Can't quite figure out what to do with this.... yet...

Daddy hosed me down in the bath tub.. got me all clean.. put on my best pair of PJ's... then I picked up some girls who walked me around the house. Best birthday ever! Happy Birthday Baby Eilan!

Estes Park

We took a mini vacation and spent the weekend in Estes Park. Local cuisine from small towns are always the best! We had some really good pizza and ate at one of the best BBQ places we've ever had. We were hoping to get some yummy cookies at one of the bakery's but they weren't open. Maybe next time!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween filled with lots of candy. The boys had a great time. We took them down the street and back. Just enough houses to fill Koen's little felt basket. As soon as he scored a yellow tootsie roll, he wanted to go home and eat it. And of coarse Eilan tried to sneak a piece the second we weren't paying attention.

There's this neat little park right next to the church we go to. So we've been trying to get to church a little early so the boys can play for little bit before Mass. Husband just got me a nice tripod for my camera so I can finally start to be in some family photos. This past Sunday we had nice weather again before we begin to see snow this week. What did I forget? My tripod.

We planted our first garden this year and somehow managed to produce a lot of veggies. One of which is a tomato plant which has gone crazy. I took Eilan out to pick the ripe ones the other day and he wouldn't stop whining until I gave him one.

Now, this would have been a great picture if Eilan would have stopped trying to eat the grass.

Event though they can't move with both in there, they love playing in Eilan's old bath tub.

A few weeks ago, they moved Koen up to the preschool room. He gets his own cute little bear backpack which he likes to wear because he's a "big boy" now.

Last week, little brother had to have surgery and get a cyst removed from under his eyebrow. He did very well and it's healing nicely. I had to keep a close watch on him at the hospital because all the nurses wanted to take him home!

We took a trip up to Seattle over July 4th weekend. Got to do a lot of sight seeing.. boat riding.. and Koen got to ride the train that goes up and down (aka The Space Needle).

The infamous Orchard Train... We've been making it a bit of a ritual to visit the Orchard Train on the weekends. For only $2 you get a 10 minute ride around the Orchard shopping area.

Happy late Mother's Day! This past Sunday, we took the boys to the Colorado Train Museum. Koen liked all the BIG trains but was mostly interested in playing with the small Thomas wooden train set in the gift shop.

We just got back from a week in Alaska visiting Grandma Sharon and Grandpa Chip. Koen had a great time. His teachers at day care told me that he was telling everyone all day that he got to ride the BIG BIG airplane.

Koen brought home another cold from day care and this time Eilan caught it. He knows what the blue nose sucker does now and squirms and shakes his head when I try to suck his nose with it.

So much to be thankful for this past year and so much more to look forward to in 2011. Koen's getting taller every day and saying complete sentences.. Eilan's still eating like a horse and keeping us up all night. I can't believe he's almost 2 months old!

Meet the newest member of our family... Eilan! Weighing in at 7lbs 14.6 oz, born Nov 16th, he was ready to come out! (Mama was sooo ready to!). Koen has adored him since the first time he saw him. He even helped me put baby brother's socks on the other day.

Koen was a cute little monkey. But he hated wearing the head so I could never get a good picture because he'd whine until we took it off. It was his first time Trick-Or-Treating. I had to drag him up to the first house and we practiced saying "Trick Or Treat" at home but he froze when people opened the door. He finally figured out the concept of getting candy after a few houses and eventually ran to the front door by himself. His favorite is a sucker and his eyes lit up every time he got one.

All the kids went for the cookie first at his school's Halloween party.... only one kid ate his broccoli... and it wasn't the monkey.

Pumpkin Patch

We finally had a chance to try out a new park nearby. He LOVED it. We'll be going back more often.

Koen's been doing very well in school. He even has a little girl friend (although, he doesn't know it). Whenever I pick him up, she's always there to hand him his jacket... "this is Koen's" she tells me. What did he learn this week? "I WANT...." In addition to last week's... "MINE".

3 more weeks until baby brother is here! Koen will have to start with sharing his blog.

We've seen many changes in Koen in the past few weeks... he's talking more, says "Ko-nan" when you ask him what his name is... he can also recognize and read his name! Just a few more weeks until baby brother comes. We'll definitely see some changes then!

We had a short visit from the cousins over the weekend. Koen had fun playing with Micah... he was super jealous every time Mama held Paxton.. and clung to Kenzie like glue. We just got back from a week in Cancun. After going to Orange County to see Father Joseph, then San Diego for Jamie's wedding, and Cancun all in just over a month... I don't want to see another airport for awhile.

Koen had a great time lounging in the pool every day. He even got a nice tan. Although, the creases on his leg rolls are still white :)

Jamie's Wedding

We spent the weekend in San Diego to attend cousin Jamie's wedding. It was at Pt Loma's naval base, out door and off the shore. It was a beautiful wedding and turned out perfect. It was great to meet most of Ryan's side of the family and see Grandma/Grandpa Lucas again.

Koen's been babbling a lot more. He's been saying "mama" for awhile now. He'll also sit next to the baby gate and look at the cracked door on the other side that goes to the basement where he knows Ryan is and yell "da". Over Labor Day weekend, we had two visitors from Japan stay with us, Yusuke and Shohei. They have to be the most well mannered, respectful, and grateful young men I've met in a long time. We had a great time with them. They even brought us gifts for being their host family, one of which was a little Totoro toy for Koen. It's a little racoon looking animal that has a tail you can pull to make it vibrate. Koen holds the head with his teeth and pulls the tail with his little hands.

My baby's 9 months old! I can't believe how time flies... makes me cherish even more the time I get with my family.

I gave birth to a little monkey. He picks things up with his feet. Even when he has things in his hands, he'll reach down and hand it off to his feet. We're not quite crawling yet. Koen's been getting on his knees and sticking his butt up in the air but that's about as far as he gets. I have seen him up on all fours but didn't know what to do from there then just plopped back down.

I always try to put socks on him that are fairly tight because he always tries to pull them off....

My manager sent me to Wichita for training and since I don't go anywhere without Koen, he got to spend some time with Ong/Ba (Grandpa/Grandma). He had a really good time and changed so much just in 2 weeks. My parents took vacation days to stay home and watch him while I was in class. This is what he learned...

I came home from class the second day and he was chowing down on his thumb. This is how he sleeps now...

He is also rolling over easily now and likes being on his tummy.

Koen was playing with the duck and had his head against the left side wing as usual. I went upstairs to do laundry. It was very quiet the whole time I was up there so I figured he fell asleep. I asked Ryan if he was sleeping. He laughed and said "nope.. come look at your son..." The silly boy slowly scooted his way underneath the duck and popped out the other end.

Koen came home from day care with a fever last Friday. It got pretty bad over the weekend.. couldn't breathe, wouldn't eat, bad cough, wouldn't sleep... it eventually went down to his chest and he also got an ear infection. He's been pretty miserable. Poor baby... But in the last few days, his temperature has gone down and he's eating a little more. Things are better.

I gave him a bath this morning and when I was reaching for his diaper, I heard a sucking noise. I looked up and he had his toe in his mouth!

We took Koen in for his 4 month check-up yesterday. I can't believe how time has past... my baby's getting old! He's been congested with a stuffy nose for the past week and a half (ever since he started public day care... I HATE public day care!!!!). He's now 14 lb 10 oz and 26 1/2 " long. His toes are curling in his 6 month pj's. I put a 9 month outfit on him this morning and he fit it! Very lose and lots of room in the tummy but fits the length. He can roll over onto his tummy but when he gets there, he gets stuck and doesn't know how to roll back. He hates tummy time and starts whining after a couple minutes. But he did roll back once for me when he was eying a toy I was moving from one side to the other. He's also grabbing and holding onto his feet now.

We spent Christmas 2008 at Ong/Ba Ngoai's house (Grandpa and Grandma in Kansas). It was a family reunion with everyone from Seattle, New Jersey, OKC, Houston, California, and Denver. We celebrated the 10th anniversary of Koen's Great Grandfather's death. Koen did very well and everyone loved him. He's talking up a storm now and is grabbing at things. Since Father Joseph, my uncle from California, was going to be there, we had him baptize Koen that weekend. During the baptism, Koen kept smiling and talking to Father Joseph. It was so cute.

Koen always has his hands in a tight little grip. So they get really sweaty and stink!

He's a little wobbly but is holding his own head up now and can sit in his bumbo by himself.

Wish we would have had this one before we sent out Christmas cards!

We spent thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa Lucas's. Koen did very well and LOVED Grandpa. Right before we were about to leave, Koen was being fussy because he was very tired and needed a nap. Grandpa held him and he fell asleep... so we stayed awhile longer while he slept with Grandpa.

Daddy's job requirements changed so he has to work from the office full-time and cannot work from home like I can and help me take care of Koen. So we're putting him in day care two days a week (for now). We'll see how he is in a couple months. And if he's not so high maintenance and needy by then, he should be able to stay with me and not need day care the other 3 days. (I hope.. I hope..) Today was the first day. It was so hard! Yes, I cried... and yes, I'm going to go pick him up early! :-D

I can't believe he's now 8 weeks old! He still has major gas problems and still spends 15 minutes crying and grunting until he's blue in the face trying to push his gas out when he wakes up. This morning while I was waiting for him to finish so that I can feed him, this is what I caught him doing.....

We're starting to see minor changes... He's still very fussy but is starting to smile more. Ryan and I were the farmer and his wife and Koen was our little cow. He's also gaining a little more weight (his chubby cheeks show it).

Ok, we've been really bad about taking photos of Koen. But Aunt Lan and cousins Micah and Kenzie came down for the weekend and took some really good photos. It was good to see them and Koen seemed to enjoy seeing new faces... he's probably sick of me and Ryan.
